Do you take care of one of your most used and most relied upon investments- Your Vehicle?
Do you know when it's time for an oil change?
Do you know what type of oil to use?
Do you know when to get new tires?
Do you know what tread is right for the area that you live in?
-According to a recent survey from the Automotive Service Association, more than 54 percent of customers who take their vehicles for service and repair are women.
I think that it is wonderful that women are being more proactive about their vehicles, but I also think there is a lot more that we can do in the care and maintence of our vehicles.
I could go on and on about all of the things that I need to know about my car, but will spare you the agony and share some helpful info that I got at MotorOilMatters.org
Does it matter if I change my oil regularly?
•Regular oil changes are one of the most important things that can be done to help extend the life of an engine.
•Changing your oil will remove harmful contaminants and dirt that have been collected in the oil.
What does the "W" stand for in motor oil names?
•It stands for winter, not weight as many people believe.
Can I switch between conventional oil and synthetic oil?
•Switching between synthetic and conventional oil will not cause any harm to engines as long as both individual oils meet the engine manufacturer’s requirements as listed in the owner’s manual.
Motor Oil Matters- Is a web site designed to provide you with the information that you need to make an informed decision when it comes to motor oil and your vehicle. You can test your knowledge with their interactive quiz or visit their tips & advice section for answers to commonly asked questions. You can also find a Certified Motor Oil Matters store on the Motor Oil Matters website.
I recently went to Jiffy Lube for an oil change with a lot more knowledge than I had before. It made me feel really good when the technician at Jiffy Lube talked to me about tire pressure, fluids, and oil-and I knew what he was talking about!
I know one thing is for sure, if you don't take care of your car, it's not going to take care of you!

A Mother's Day Tale...
Today is a great day for mom's, not that everyday isn't a great day, but today we as taxi driver's, nurse's, referee's and mom's get to be appreciated for just being us!
I have decided to tell the story of how I became a mom on this, my 10th Mother's Day.
It is absolutely amazing how something that you never really thought you wanted changes your life in the most amazing way!
I didn’t want children, mostly because I babysat a lot and decided that kids weren’t for me. When I became pregnant with my son, I can’t honestly say that I was excited, but had come to grips with it. But once I felt him move inside of me for the first time, I was smitten. He helped me to realize that my life would change- for the better!
I was getting everything ready, every paycheck I bought diapers, wipes, clothes, blankets and a piece of furniture.
I ended up having my son at 28 weeks, I was more unprepared for his arrival than I could have ever imagined.
I couldn’t return any of the clothing for preemie sizes because it had all been washed, ironed and put away, the diapers I would need eventually, financially I was over budget, emotionally beaten and yet had this beautiful little baby to make all of those fears fade away, with new ones to surface- is he going to survive, how did this happen, what did I do wrong, how am I going to get through this?
Luckily my lil’ monkey was a fighter, one month and one day after being born I got to bring all 3 pounds of him home in the ugliest doll outfit ever{they didn’t make a lot of preemie clothes back then.} It wasn’t all up hill from there I am sad to say, it was often like climbing a mountain. getting to the peak to then find an even bigger mountain. He wasn’t even home for a week and he was back in the hospital with pneumonia. Getting up at 3:00 a.m. once a month to drive him 2 1/2 hours to the University to get RSV shots, dealing with developmental delays, physical therapy, occupational therapy, gaining weight, just getting him healthier and stronger was and is a feat in itself.
My son is now 10 1/2 years old, he is almost as tall as I am and is smart as a whip. He just learned to ride a bike, hop on one foot, jump rope, run in a straight line and a great lot of other things he wasn’t able to do before.
I am just so proud of the young man that he is becoming and just to think… I didn’t want any children. The love of a child is like nothing you’ve ever felt and will feel again.
Our experiences differ from mother to mother but one thing is the same… we love our children unconditionally and with all our hearts!
Cheers to all of the moms, grandmas, sisters and friends, Happy Mother’s Day, and the best are yet to come!
