Will it Ever End?

So my son is ten years old now; I have never heard someone back talk their mother as much as he does me. I have tried so many things, grounding him, taking away things, and talking to him about it, and still NoThInG, no change. So if anyone has any information on how to stop this or get through it please let me know ASAP!!
I am so tired of it that I am ready to give him away until this passes:) LOL

There is a great parenting series of books & videos called "Love & Logic Parenting" by Jim Fay and Foster Kline. They are awesome! I highly recommend them! I checked Amazon.com and here is a link to some of the different books in the series: http://tinyurl.com/yzuwlfj; but your local library may have them too.

As for the immediate situation, I would definitely continue to point out each and every time your son is disprespectful to you. I would often say to my kids, "I don't talk to you that way and I expect the same respect when you're talking to me."

And maybe, the next time he needs something from you, say a ride to a friend's house, you could say, "Honey, I think I'm going to say no to giving you that ride. I'm going to wait until I hear you speaking to me in a more respectful way."

Good luck!

Holly,
Thank you for the advice, I will surely be checking these out. He didn't go through his terrible two's and so I think that he is going through the terrible tens instead? LOL

In my experience 10 yo boys don't know whether they are coming or going:) Blessedly they grow up.

However, you might want to do a brief check and listen to yourself when you are talking to him. Try to talk to him in everyday situations as politely as you would someone else's 10 yo. I only say that because sometimes I start hearing rudeness around my house that I can often back-track to a bad habit I've gotten into.
